Big Sis Little Sis Week: Filled with Regrets and Joy

It was that time of year again in Connie Land, this year it was to celebrate Red Devils, like myself. From 9/18/11 till reveal night on 9/22/11 festivities occurred each night so the Freshman class of 2015 could reap the joys of being spoiled by the Junior class of 2013. Well, it was fun and all when I was a freshman but let me just tell you this, when you’re a Big and procrastinate on your shopping you’ll become a slave to Big Sis, Little Sis Week.

So, someone might question- why did a braided tail and weird looking horns take so long? Well, the answer is this: First of all, I don’t know how to sew, so the flower things were a challenge. Secondly, the reason why I had to make untraditional horns is because my Big, Isabela, made them that way for me (there was kind of a garden theme with all of her presents) and I felt I should continue the tradition. That’s also why I have butterfly bead things braided into the tail. The tail itself was a different kind of beast I had to take on. It takes a lot of yarn to make a thick tail and takes some time to string a strand of yarn through the butterfly. So I think it’s predictable to say that my regret for Little Big Week was that I procrastinated too much, as in I waited to do my shopping till the day before, basically. It would’ve helped a lot if I had bought stuff here and there in advance and had worked on my arts and crafts projects in a more spaced out manner.

Another concern Bigs sometimes have over this time period is that maybe their Littles won’t like them or vice versa. Well I’m glad to say it wasn’t the case at all for anyone I know. I’ll admit, I was worried a tad for my situation since I had no idea who my Littles were or what they looked like. I chose them b/c we seemed to be compatible when I read their profiles and because they’re from awesome places- Sri Lanka and Nigeria! It also so happens that everyone in my “family” is from an interesting place. They were actually all from different countries, except for me, but I revived that tradition when I picked my Littles :) .

My last regret: That I couldn’t shower these sweet Littles with more presents! At the end of reveal night I couldn’t have been a happier Big to have such great sisters! I know there are wonderful memories to be had in our future. I’m lucky to have such great people in my life.

A Farewell Celebration: To the Official Last Weekend of No Work

So, we just had our first weekend of school- did you have something to do? Sometimes it can be hard to decide what to do with your friends. Occasionally, my friends and I partake in Sushi Night. We all have a love for food and our club was started especially for our love of eating Sushi! Plus, it’s fun to get dressed up and go out to dinner with mis amigas. Our group is also primarily made up of lacrosse players so it’s great for team bonding :) . Anyways, here’s how the festivities kicked off for the Fall semester.

After enduring five days of syllabi reading I decided my sushi club (technically unofficial, not affiliated with Converse) and I were due for a fun night out. So, on Friday September 2nd we were off to Tsunami’s in Downtown Greenville. (PS. I found an interesting article on MSN about how Greenville is #5 out of 10 most fun, affordable U.S. cities). 020022

While some of my friends/ teammates enjoyed delicious sushi morsels, like my Crunch Roll, Poseidon Roll, and Surf and Turf, others (aka our honorary members) indulged in some non-fish meals. If you like beef, I recommend the Kalbi ribs, marinated delicious tender beef. And if you don’t like beef either, there’s always Chicken Katsu or a simple salad with ginger dressing. But anyways, even if you think you don’t like sushi or Japanese food, as co-president of Sushi Club, I’m telling you to try a new cuisine because you never know what you’ll end up liking. Don’t have anyone to try new foods with? Ask to join our Sushi Club! Anyone’s welcome, and we’re looking into expanding our club into several branches for other cuisines. Plus, each member gets a cool membership card with their picture on it :) .

But back to the events that occurred that night. After some silly picture taking we were off to Coffee Underground for some sweets and treats. So, if you’re not too full after all of that there are some clubs downtown that you might like to try. Nothing was really happening that night so there are no pics to show for that BUT girls are free at The Basement and parking is free in the parking structure on the weekend. Free is always good to hear when you’re a poor college student who spent a lot of money on one meal.

So basically, downtown in general is just a cute place to hangout/ explore. I highly recommend it if you’re not from this area, like me. There’s lots more to do then what I’ve mentioned!
