Hey and welcome to my blog! I’m using this post to introduce myself.
My name is Jessica, which I imagine you have already figured out. I’m 20 years old and a Junior here at Converse. My freshman year I came in with the intentions of being a Creative and Professional Writing major, (the major is what made me choose to come here… more on that another time), and it is still my major. During my sophomore year, I added a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing.
After college… I’m not exactly sure what I want to do with my two majors, but I really enjoy them both! One of the great things about Converse is how much we are encouraged to expand our thoughts and think outside of the box. I didn’t believe that I could do a double major successfully at first, but so far so good!
I am constantly debating with myself on whether I want to pursue journalism or marketing after college, but either way I know that I want to be involved in the horse industry. I grew up with horses and have been showing cutting horses since the age of 12. It is most definitely my biggest passion. It was actually through showing horses that I discovered a love of writing.
Family is really important to me. I have amazing parents who support me and the best little brother in the world! They only live about 45 minutes from campus so I am able to see them regularly and go home to ride my horses.
I am thrilled to be in the second half of my time here at Converse. The first half certainly flew by. A note to any freshman or prospective student who may be reading, enjoy every moment and make the most of each opportunity here at Converse and everywhere else you may go. The theme for 1889 week last year was Dr. Suess’s, “Oh the places you’ll go,” which for me, is a reminder to try new things, go new places, have new experience, and make the most of every second. Not to sound cliché- but life is far too short!
This year I have made some goals for myself. We have all be told that we need accountability to achieve goals, so I am sharing them with you!
Jessica’s Goals
-
Make the most of each opportunity
-
Learn to enjoy both the good times and to make the best out of the bad times.
-
Develop the habit of writing daily( and no, working on a paper doesn’t count, but I am counting writing blogs and work for writing classes)
-
Kick butt on my 19 hours this semester
- HAVE FUN!
I will work on updating you occasionally this year on how the goals are going, and I would love to hear what goals you have for this year! Actually- I just love feedback. If you love something I write tell me, if it isn’t something that you want to read about tell me that too. As a writer, I want to write things that my readers are interested in. With that being said, if there is a certain aspect of my college life you want to know about, let me know!
I leave you with the image of Myrtle because a campus can’t be complete without a pink elephant… and she makes me laugh!
